The Great Peat Off is The Dram Club's most ambitious tasting event to date — a first-of-its-kind, no-label, no-bias face-off between three iconic Islay Scotch single malts and two of India's finest peated expressions. Thirty guests. Five drams. Zero label influence. And one surprise pour that nobody sees coming.

The Lineup

Guests will know the five whiskies in the room. What they won't know is which glass holds which.

Team Scotch — Islay, Scotland

• Lagavulin 16 Year Old — Rich, smoky, and laden with dried fruit, with a long finish that lingers like sea mist off the Islay cliffs. The thinking person's peated malt.
• Ardbeg 10 Year Old — Bold, coastal, and complex. Citrus cuts through the smoke in a way that surprises even those who think they know this dram.
• Laphroaig 10 Year Old — Medicinal, seaweed-laced, and unapologetically assertive. The most divisive dram on the island, and one of the most beloved in the world.

Team India

• Indri Agneya (Piccadily Distilleries, Haryana) — Fruity smoke and Indian oak warmth in a dram that speaks confidently of the subcontinent's terroir. A relatively recent arrival that has already earned international recognition.
• Amrut Amalgam Peated (Amrut Distilleries, Bangalore) — Rich, layered, and unmistakably Indian. Tropical maturation does extraordinary things to peated spirit, and this is Amrut's proof of concept.

The Format

The evening unfolds in five acts:

1. Welcome & Introduction Guests are seated, the five-whisky lineup is announced, and the rules of engagement are explained. Bottles are on display — but poured in an undisclosed order.

2. The Blind Tasting Each whisky is poured sequentially. Guests nose, taste, and score every dram on aroma, palate, finish, and overall impression using a branded tasting card. Water droppers and palate cleansers are provided throughout.

3. The Great Reveal Identities are disclosed in order. Scores are tallied. Surprises happen. Laughter follows. The classic "I told you so" moment is guaranteed.

4. The Surprise Dram The mystery sixth pour arrives. Guests taste, react, and guess before the final reveal.

5. Open Bar & Networking The formal tasting wraps, but the evening doesn't. Guests revisit their favourites, compare scorecards, and engage with the room of fellow enthusiasts over open pours.
